Cin Weekly ran an article in 2006 for Halloween about the old Abner house located off US-25 in Walton, KY.

Allegedly, it's haunted by several ghosts. Stories circulate about 2 seperate shotgun-suicides that occured in the house (years apart), pre-civil war hangings of african-american slaves from trees that still live on the property, etc.

You can google the Abner House, and I found one review. Someone claims to have lived there in the mid-90's, and attests that nothing strange seems to have ever happened.

They say that some people aren't "in tune" with the paranormal. Anyone else have any thoughts or feelings on the Abner House?

here's the link I found:

Nice. I grew up in Williamstown and the stories of the Abner house were frequently told among the locals. I have never been able to make it out there, but I have heard about it quite a lot. :)

Yeah I pass that house everyday Monday thru Friday between 2:30-2:45 pm and 12:10- 12:20 am. I continue to look over everyday but I see nothing. It could be a cool looking house with some work. Only problem is I don't remember it being yellow.

I have contacted the Mayor and the architect charged with the restoration and I am awaiting info back. I was told the architect has a very recent interest with the paranormal and this property....Should be interesting

Yeah Chuck all the stories I ever heard about it were told by other kids at the time, so God knows what liberties they took with the events . . . I'll talk to my mom though, she still lives in those parts.

The city of Walton owns the house now and are remodeling it to become a historical museum for the city. As far as the stories go, it depends on who you speak with. The owners that sold it to the city insist that nothing ever happened while their family lived there. I am not sure how long they lived there, but it was over 10 yrs. They remodeled a room at a time & did state that there are a lot of rooms with secret passages. Rumors concerning the railroad tracks and the presence of ghosts from the original owner are always heard. It's a very old house, but I tend to believe the owners. I think if it was actually said to be haunted, it might have sold for even more than one that isn't. It seems that a lot of people want a haunted house. I have to say that it is an impressive house & will be sure to visit once the city opens it to the public.

Im not so sure that the City of Walton wants that property to be haunted. The Mayor and the architect are avoiding me like the plague...LOL Seems a drive to Walton is in order.

I know that the place now is chained off with signs that say not to enter. The city does not want people to go into it and get hurt while they are doing construction. The mayor does not work at city hall during the day so if you are calling at that time, he's rarely there. It would be great if they allowed you to conduct an investigation during construction before it is actually opened to the public. Good luck!

No I havent called anyone...Yet. I sent off a couple emails to each of them. So I will call the architect and see what happens from that. The history I read tends to lead me to the tracks near the property first anyhow. Liz just let me know what a good day is for you and we can hit the road.
